  • Pro-Trump town riled up after immigration officials arrest popular restaurant manager

WEST FRANKFORT, Ill. –  A southern Illinois community that solidly backed President Donald Trump has rallied behind a Mexican restaurant manager who doesn't have legal permission to live in the U.S. and has been detained by immigration officials. Letters of support for Juan Carlos Hernandez Pacheco have poured in from West Frankfort's mayor, police chief, high school athletic director and the county prosecutor. They describe Hernandez as a role model and praise his robust civil involvement, including funding school scholarships, benefit dinners for families in need and hosting a law enforcement appreciation event. Hernandez, 38, came to the U.S. in the 1990s but didn't obtain legal status, according

  • Great white shark caught from pier is under investigation; disturbing video

A disturbing video of a juvenile great white shark being hauled up onto the Huntington Beach Pier and an equally disturbing photo of the fishermen posing with the catch has created an uproar on social media. The video posted on Facebook by Mike Hefner and the photo posted on Facebook by Diego Gamboa Fishing not only sparked outrage but could help enforcement agents with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife in identifying the offending anglers. Great white sharks are protected. It is illegal to catch a great white shark and when one is hooked, it is supposed to be released as soon as possible, not landed so photos can be taken, as what happened in this case. And you certainly don’t gaff

  • 2017 NFL Draft: 'Buzz' generating around a potentially stunning 49ers move at No. 2

Draft season is the smokiest season in the NFL, a time of the year when no one is to believed and any rumor is on the table. This year is even smokier because the two teams at the top, the Cleveland Browns and San Francisco 49ers, are in full-blown rebuilds without clear-cut options at quarterback.  Anything is on the table, making any rumor totally feasible. Here’s a very interesting option for San Francisco: Reuben Foster of Alabama with the No. 2 overall pick. According to Vic Carruci of the Buffalo News, there is substantial “buzz” about Foster landing in San Francisco at the top of the draft. Asked in a mailbag about the possibility of Foster landing with Buffalo at No. 10 overall, Carucci

  • Yes, California's drought is all but over, and the dramatically revived Cachuma Lake proves it

Heading into February, things were looking grim here in the rugged hills north of Santa Barbara. While much of California was emerging from five years of drought, this giant reservoir had dwindled to a weedy channel at just 7% of capacity and was perilously close to being written off as a regional water supply. And then the rains came in unrelenting horizontal sheets. It was one of the largest storms in memory over the Santa Ynez Valley on Feb. 17, swamping historical records and causing the lake to rise a whopping 31 feet in depth in just a few days. It “slammed us with intense sideways rain,” recalled Beverly Keller, manager of the Cachuma Lake General Store. “Falling on the roof of my mobile

  • Every Parent Should Use This Dad's "X-Plan" to Give Their Teens a Way Out of Pressure Situations

Being a teen can be difficult; you're learning to navigate a more adult world full of sometimes uncomfortable social situations, which may or may not include peer pressure, while also trying to "be cool." To alleviate some of the stress that comes with these instances, one dad is sharing an invaluable code he uses with his own kids, which acts as an out for them during any awkward social situation — and it's something you and your kids should adopt ASAP. "As a teen, forcing down alcohol seemed a whole lot easier than offering myself up for punishment, endless nagging and interrogation, and the potential end of freedom as I knew it," Bert Fulks, a father and youth minister, shared on his blog. "For these reasons, we now have something called the 'X-plan' in our family. "Let's say that my youngest, Danny, gets dropped off at a party.

  • Man's wife vanished on a cruise. He told no one

(NEWSER) – Daniel Belling, his wife, and their two children set off on an 11-day Mediterranean cruise on Feb. 9. Only three of them boarded a flight back to Dublin—or tried to. The 45-year-old German native was stopped for questioning at Rome's Ciampino Airport on Tuesday in connection with the apparent disappearance of his wife, Li Yinglei, and taken into custody. He has not been charged, but a judge ruled Friday that he must remain in jail until prosecutors make a decision, reports the Irish Times. The Irish Independent reports the family boarded the luxury Magnifica cruise ship in Civitavecchia, Italy, and records show Li reboarded the ship on the 10th after it docked in Genoa. After that,

  • Here's who would lose money under Trump's proposed tax plan

Most people would save money under the tax overhaul proposed by President Donald Trump, according to an analysis of the plan by the Tax Policy Center. But not everybody. Using the analysis, Business Insider broke down the financial implications of Trump's most recent tax plan — he has teased the release of an updated plan in the coming weeks — for a variety of tax filers. By and large, the more you make, the better you would fare under Trump's proposed plan. But one group of filers could actually see their tax bill go up, depending on their tax bracket: families with children — especially single parents. It's important to keep in mind that no law has been passed, so nothing is a given. If Trump

  • Merriam Webster’s Tweet to Kellyanne Conway Has Chilling Effect on Women’s Movement

Another week, another instance of staggering hypocrisy when it comes to the treatment of conservative women by self-avowed feminists. This week’s target of Twitter’s self-righteous derision is the first female campaign manager of a successful presidential campaign, Kellyanne Conway, who currently serves as a senior advisor to the Trump administration. At the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) last week, Conway took the stage down the street from the White House in National Harbor, MD, to discuss her experiences in politics, how being a woman has informed those experiences, and the impact of gender on her current position. • Guy quits his crappy job in the best way possible

Sometimes, you need to go out with a bang. Or a flush. Giving two weeks is a pretty standard practice when employees move on from their current job. It allows the company a short amount of time to search for a replacement, and gives the employee an opportunity to leave on good standing. You never know when you may need that reference — or worse, when you may need your old job back. While most people quickly Google "two-week notice letter" and follow a pretty standard form, this guy decided on a different method. SEE ALSO: Lucky woman wins lottery days after quitting her job According to his wife, Redditor Girlofgodsbadday, this dude decided to quit his job by writing his two-week notice on a few sheets of toilet paper.  "I have chosen this type of paper for my 2 week resignation as a symbol of how I feel this company has treated me, and ironically, how it is disposed of is where I feel the company is going," the letter reads. Just in case the message wasn't clear, he drew a toilet next to where he signed his name. While he didn't use the term "ironically" properly, we're going to give him a pass because handing that over to any boss takes some serious guts.
